Support for the development of family farming through the promotion of agroecology, the collective marketing of agricultural products and the credit-saving initiatives of small-scale producers in Burundi
The objective of the project is to help organized producers in cooperatives improve their production through agro-ecological practices and to better market their products through conservation and processing initiatives.
The beneficiaries of the project are small-scale farmers who practice family farming integrating food crops and cash crops such as coffee and tea, sometimes combining them with traditional and extensive livestock farming. Unfortunately, these producers have limited access to fertilizers, phytosanitary products and improved seeds. They also have little access to credit, hence the development of Fondsdev (Solidarity Fund for Development) to enable them to finance their activities.
The project is being carried out in Kayanza, Ngozi, Kirundo, Muramvya, Gitega and Cibitoke provinces, and includes beekeepers from the provinces of Kayanza, Bujumbura and Rumonge.
It is planned for a period of 5 years: 2017-2021
