Inades Formation Kenya was first established in Kenya at the beginning of 1978. On 5th June 1978, Inades Formation Kenya was incorporated as a non-profit-making company for promoting rural development through distant education. In December 1993, Inades Formation Int. Kenya office (IFIKO) was registered as a Non- Government Organization under the NGO coordination Act, with mandate to work anywhere in Kenya for Social and Economic Development. After a four year period of low activity it re-launched its activities in December 1998 – in the then Makueni and Machakos districts with plans to expand to Kitui district. Later in 2009, it spread its wings to the then Kitui district particularly in Matinyani location, Kauma sub-location.
In the year 2012, the organization changed its name to Inades-Formation Kenya (IFK) after acquiring a National Association (NA) status as per the regulations of the Inades-Formation Network. The organization therefore acquired a new registration from the Kenya NGO Coordination Board in April 2012.
Inades Formation Kenya works for the Economic and Social advancement of the people with special emphasis on the peoples’ free and responsible participation in the transformation of their societies. Its stated working strategic approach is constituted by “Stimulation and Accompaniment of the Development Alternatives in the service of common good (SAADEV).
The national office is located in Machakos town, approximately 65kms East of Nairobi, along Machakos- wote road, opposite Century park college roughly 3 kms from Machakos town centre
