Soilless cultivation: Inades-Formation Burkina equips farmers

Throughout June, Inades-Formation Burkina ran a series of training courses on soilless cultivation for members of six (06) cooperatives in the Boucle du Mouhoun region.  This action aims to enable farmers to master the practice of soilless cultivation, which represents an interesting alternative for agricultural production given the context of insecurity linked to terrorist attacks and land degradation in Burkina Faso.

Creation of rice husk-based vegetable plant supports

The training sessions took place throughout the month of June 2023 in several locations in the Boucle du Rhône region.

. They have enabled farmers to acquire knowledge on how to create substrates from the residues of local produce, and to master techniques for planting and maintaining crops on a soilless farm. The beneficiaries of these training sessions were delighted to learn about solutions to the degradation and shortage of arable land in their locality.

More than 200 farmers, most of them women, have benefited from training in soilless cultivation provided by Inades-Formation Burkina agents. This support is part of the implementation of the “Gender Equality through Women-led Agroecology in West Africa” (EGALE AO) project. Funded by Inter Pares and Affaire Mondial Canada, this project aims to improve gender equality in poor rural areas of Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Togo. It is scheduled to run for five years, from 2022 to 2026.

Hello! Salut chers amateurs de cuisine et amoureux du consommer local. Nous poursuivons nos recettes à base de céréales locales. Aujourd'hui nous vous proposons la macédoine de sorgho. Prêts pour une nouvelle aventure culinaire ? A vos assiettes et régalons-nous de nos produits sains et nutritifs. Ingrédients : Sorgho blanc non décortiqué 500 g, salade laitue, 5 tomates bien mûres, 5 concombres, 1 botte de basilic, feuilles de menthe, haricots blancs 250 g, 1 thon blanc frais, huile d’olive 250 ml, sel, moutarde, mayonnaise, ail 250 g, une botte de persil, 5 carottes fraîches, vinaigre, oignon 250g, haricots verts 500 g, 1 cs gingembre moulu, 1 cc de poivre moulu, 1 cc de romarin, 1 cc de thym. Etape de préparation : 1. Cuire les 250 g de sorgho préalablement lavé dans 1 demi-litre d'eau pendant 15 minutes et y ajoutant la mesure de curcuma indiquée ci-haut pour obtenir la coloration jaunâtre. 2. Retirer le sorgho précuit de l'eau et essorer-le 3. Continuer la cuisson à la vapeur dans un couscoussier en ajoutant très peu d'eau et veiller à ce que les grains soient tendres mais n'absorbent pas trop d'eau pendant 15 minutes. 4. Ajouter soit le beurre ou l’huile d'olive puis une pincée de la poudre de la noix de muscade pour parfumer notre sorgho. 5. Cuire les carottes et les haricots verts dans très peu d'eau pendant 5 minutes en y ajoutant une pincée de bicarbonate de soude pour préserver la couleur de vos légumes. Puis rincer les abondamment pour ôter les traces de bicarbonate. 6. Mélanger le sorgho et les légumes précuits. 7. Faire cuire le thon frais avec les épices après cuisson dans 1 litre d’eau. Émietter le thon en y ôtant les arêtes et la chair foncée. 8. Dresser le canapé en y ajoutant de la vinaigrette. Bon appétit !!!!

Atelier de partage de progrès et de plaidoyer pour l’éducation financière et sociale en Côte d’Ivoire. L'éducation sociale et financière fait l’objet d’un intérêt croissant afin de garantir l’inclusion financière des populations et plus particulièrement des populations défavorisées. Aflatoun et INADES-Formation en partenariat avec des partenaires locaux dont le PEF (programme d'Education financière), ont mis en œuvre deux projets d’éducation financière en faveur des jeunes urbains et ruraux en Côte d’Ivoire. Un atelier de capitalisation de ces projets a ainsi été organisé du 6 au 7 juin 2024. Cet atelier avait pour objectif de discuter autour des enseignements tirés des projets de formation à l’Éducation sociale et financière et de tirer des approches stratégiques et des étapes méthodiques pour la période post projet. L’atelier a permis de réaffirmer l’importance de l’éducation financière et la nécessité pour les États de développer des politiques nationales pour son développement.

Bonjour, amateurs de bonne cuisine! En ce 27 juillet, journée mondiale du Fonio, INADES-Formation, vous propose la recette de Fonio au gras. Le fonio est une céréale d'avenir! Résilient au changement climatique, il est riche en nutriments, sans gluten et digeste! Ingrédients : 250 g de fonio précuits, ½ kg de tomate fraîche, 4 oignons violets ou blancs, 1 bouquet de persil, 3 tiges de poireau, une botte de feuilles d’oignon (ciboulette), 3 poivrons (rouge, jaune et vert), 2 cuillères à soupe de moutarde, ½ tasse d’huile végétale, 1 poulet local (africain), 4 éclats d’ail, Hareng (magni sec) en poudre, 1 doigt de gingembre frais, épices (Romarin, thym, fenouil, 1 cuillère à café de rondelle), 3 piments jaunes, 4 feuilles de laurier, les légumes (1 gros choux, 4 grandes carottes, 250 gr de haricots verts, 3 grandes aubergines violets), sel. Etapes de préparation : Pour le poulet local 1- Laver le poulet avec de l’eau tiède citronnée pour le débarrasser des impuretés et le découper ensuite selon votre convenance. 2- Faire pocher le poulet avec 0,5 l d’eau en prenant soin de l’assaisonner avec 1 cc à rase de sel, les 4 feuilles de laurier, les 4 éclats d’ail, un peu de (romarin, thym, fenouil, rondelle, gingembre frais moulu, moutarde, poireau, persil, pâte d’oignon violet) pendant 6 minutes afin que les épices pénètrent au mieux dans le poulet. 3- Après les 6 minutes, retirer le poulet et préserver le bouillon pour la suite de la préparation. 4- Frire les morceaux de poulet pour les dorer. Pour la préparation du fonio précuit au gras 1- Hacher l’ail, oignon, tomate fraîche, poireau, les ciboulettes préalablement bien nettoyés et débarrassés des résidus et découper les poivrons en dés, 2- Verser l’huile végétale dans la casserole dans laquelle vous avez décidé de préparer le fonio au gras quand l’huile est bien chaude faites frire l’ail, l’oignon, la tomate fraîche rendue en purée, le poireau, les ciboulettes et les poivrons en dés. 3- Mettre le poulet frit dans la friture obtenue de l’étape 2 et laisser mijoter avec les piments jaunes, les légumes ( 1 gros choux, 4 grandes carottes, 250 gr de haricots verts, 3 grandes aubergines violets), le sel, les épices (Romarin, thym, fenouil, 1 cuillère à café de rondelle) puis le bouillon réservé et la poudre de poisson pour clôturer l’assaisonnement ainsi que la moutarde restante afin de relever le goût du fonio pendant 3 minutes et retirer les piments, légumes ainsi que le poulet dans un autre récipient pour le dressage final. 4- Ajouter 0,5 l d’eau au grand bouillon et laisser bouillir puis ajouter le fonio précuit ramolli au beurre et à l’huile d’olive et laisser cuire pendant 20 minutes tout en contrôlant le niveau de sel. 5- Le fonio au gras est prêt à être servi et dégusté Astuce : Pour rendre les grains de fonio plus tendre, il faut les asperger avec la gélatine de gombo frais. Bon appétit!

Alors a vos marques, allons-y : *Crêpes sucrées de mil au chocolat fondant.* Ingrédients : 275 g de farine de mil tamisée, 100 g de farine de blé, 50 g de sucre en poudre, 1 sachet de sucre vanillé, 6 œufs, 75 g de beurre fondu, 1 litre de lait, 1 cuillère à café de noix de muscade, 2 pincées de sel, 1 plaquette de beurre. Étapes de préparation 1- Mélanger la farine de mil tamisée, farine de blé, le sucre et le sel dans un grand récipient. 2- Faites un puits au milieu et ajoutez-y les œufs battus. 3- Versez maintenant le beurre fondu et mélangez à nouveau. 4- Incorporez progressivement le lait tout en fouettant. 5- Ajoutez-y la noix de muscade. 6- Faites chauffer votre poêle antiadhésive, une fois chaude, étalez-y une fine couche d’huile à l’aide d’un pinceau à cuisine. 7- Versez une petite louche de pâte à crêpes et inclinez la poêle pour répartir la pâte. 8- Laissez cuire votre crêpe jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit dorée. 9- Retournez-la délicatement avec une spatule pour faire cuire l’autre face. 1. Project title

Supporting the scaling-up of community experiences and citizen monitoring of public policies in response to climate change in sub-Saharan Africa (ABCD 2 project)

2. Summary

The project to scale up community experiences and dynamics of citizen monitoring of public policies in the face of climate change in sub-Saharan Africa is the continuation of an initial project to capitalize on these experiences.

In fact, in 2022, with funding from the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation (ABCD), Inades-Formation carried out the project “Study-capitalization of best practices in the face of the challenges of climate change and local governance in sub-Saharan Africa “This project capitalized on 50 experiences, including 31 on adaptation to climate change and 19 on governance, in 11 sub-Saharan African countries.

Based on the results of this pilot project, we have been able to identify and capitalize on some of the living realities of community efforts to combat the problems posed by climate change in Africa. They have been developed by a variety of players, including public services specializing in environmental and climate change management, civil society organizations and farmers’ organizations.

This second phase of the project, which will run for 30 months (2022-2024), aims to (i) scale up these good experiences developed by communities in African countries, in terms of adaptation, mitigation and resilience to climate change and of (ii) support the dynamics of citizen monitoring of the associated policy and regulatory frameworks.

3. General objective

Contribute to the fight against global warming, through the large-scale promotion of local experiences and concerted policy measures relating to adaptation, mitigation and resilience mechanisms for vulnerable populations, especially rural populations in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. Specific objectives

  • Scale up the good experiences developed by communities in African countries, in terms of adaptation, mitigation and resilience in the face of climate change.
  • Support the dynamics of citizen monitoring of related policy and regulatory frameworks

The project is being carried out in 11 countries: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania and Togo.

1. Project title

Feminist Climate Action Project – West Africa ACF-AO

2. Summary

The “Feminist Climate Action in West Africa” project is being implemented in Côte d’Ivoire to contribute effectively to the resilience and fight against the effects of climate change by ecologically sensitive coastal and island communities, with a particular focus on rural women and young people.

It will build the capacity of communities, particularly women and young people, to implement strategies to protect biodiversity and ecosystems, notably through the adoption of agroecological practices, energy diversification and advocacy. It will strengthen the participation of rural women and young people in local governance of biodiversity and climate action.

Funded by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, the ACF AO project is taking place in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Togo.

It is managed in Côte d’Ivoire by SUCO and Inades-Formation – Secrétariat Général.

3. Background

Climate change threatens to push nearly a million more Ivorians into extreme poverty, increase the risk of water stress, with more and more regions expected to see more than 10% of their population in water shortage, and increase the resurgence of air- and water-related diseases among susceptible populations (Nationally Determined Contributions, CDN-COTE D’IVOIRE, March 2022). According to the World Bank, by 2050, Côte d’Ivoire will face an average temperature rise of two degrees Celsius, greater rainfall variability and a 30 cm rise in sea level along the coast (World Bank, 2018a).

Climate change affects all development sectors. However, differences between men and women in their relationship with their environment, differences in the composition of economic sectors and unequal access to resources and decision-making will amplify the impacts of climate change on certain categories of the population, including women.

The “Feminist Climate Action in West Africa” project is a response to this reality.

4. General objective

Strengthening climate change adaptation by rural and indigenous women and young people in ecologically sensitive coastal and island regions of Côte d’Ivoire.

5. Specific objectives

  • Increase the influence of rural and indigenous women and young people in climate policy advocacy and in the governance of high-biodiversity ecosystems vulnerable to climate change.
  • Increase the adoption of nature-based solutions such as agroecology, ecosystem and biodiversity protection and restoration, for climate change adaptation, by rural and indigenous women and young people.
  • Strengthen the climate resilience of rural and indigenous women and young people through economic empowerment and energy diversification.

7. Target audience / beneficiaries: Young people 41% & Rural and indigenous women 59%.

9. Project actions

– Diagnose the obstacles and facilitating factors for the active participation of target groups in biodiversity and climate management decision-making bodies;

– Participatory diagnoses carried out by local authorities on the climatic vulnerability of ecosystems and identification of gender-sensitive adaptation measures and strategies;

– Training for rural and indigenous women and young people to strengthen and maintain their participation in decision-making bodies;

– Training of beneficiaries on climate and biodiversity conservation policies;

– Participating communities receive training in business development, inclusive value chains, cooperative management, and direct marketing.

– Village awareness-raising and training workshops on biodiversity-friendly and gender-sensitive mitigation and adaptation measures carried out in participating communities.

– Ecosystem management and development plans designed and implemented in participating communities.

– Technical and financial support to participating communities for the implementation of climate-resilient agroecological practices (micro-breeding, agroforestry, market gardening, beekeeping and oyster farming); to strengthen access to productive water, agricultural inputs and equipment; for the installation of tree nurseries and reforestation of coastal ecosystems.

– Solar and eco-energy equipment for food production, processing and preservation, and training in equipment use and maintenance.

– Women and youth networking and advocacy

– Support and strengthening of savings and credit systems provided to women’s groups.
