As part of the Conscience AlimenTERRE campaign, Inades-Formation Burkina and its partners MISEREOR, Broederlijk Delen and CNABio commissioned a case study on the intensive use of synthetic chemical pesticides.
The general aim of this study is to characterize the market for the distribution of synthetic chemical pesticides, agricultural practices harmful to the environment and health, and to formulate technical recommendations for more sustainable and viable agriculture.
It was conducted by a multidisciplinary team (agropedologist, cotton agronomist, sociologist, quality control technician) coordinated by a researcher from CNRST/ IRSAT (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique /Institut de Recherche en Sciences Appliquées et Technologies). It focuses on areas of high market-garden and cotton production in Burkina Faso.
The study reveals the poor management and use of synthetic chemical pesticides in agriculture, and highlights the need to reduce or even abandon the use of synthetic chemical pesticides in agriculture in favor of more viable and sustainable farming practices.
