In Burundi, the World Food Day 2022 edition was celebrated in the east of the country on October 25, 2022 in the province and commune of Ruyigi in the center of influence located on the hill Ngarama. Under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister, Inades-Formation Burundi did not miss this opportunity. This year’s theme is: “Leave no one behind – improving production, nutrition, environment and living conditions for all” . The festivities began with the launch of the agricultural year by the Prime Minister in the presence of parliamentarians, ministers, provincial governors, ambassadors accredited to Bujumbura, United Nations agencies and NGOs, Civil society organizations, agricultural producers accompanied by various organizations including Inades-Formation Burundi.
In all the speeches delivered, the speakers pointed out that the improvement of production and nutrition is not possible without the protection of the environment, the strengthening of social cohesion between the population and their groupings in cooperatives/associations. According to the theme of the day, the Burundian population is called upon to protect the environment, restore forests, protect lakes, increase soil fertility through the use of organic and mineral fertilizers and dolomite as well as selected seeds.
The day was enhanced by the products, practices and achievements of agricultural cooperatives/associations. The agricultural producers accompanied by Inades-Formation Burundi who are involved in the promotion of sovereignty foodstuffs were present at a stand decorated with messages and locally processed sovereignty foodstuffs based on whole bean flour, commonly called “AKABIRYA”, bathed and samboussa wonders. These products were appreciated by the buyers present at this event. Thanks to their quality, the orders for the dishes far exceeded the supply in the booth. The food produced from the sovereignty food was much appreciated by the participants including the authorities.
At the end of the WFD ceremonies, producers were awarded by the authorities. The members of the association INKEREBUTSI accompanied by Inades-Formation Burundi received hoes, shovels, picks, watering cans and market gardening seeds.
